Azargui Nets Singles and Doubles ITF Event Crown
Burlington, October 20th, 2009-10-20
Hometown, Soufiane Azargui captured the singles and doubles crown at the week long ITF world ranking event held at Cedar Springs Health Racquet and Sportsclub in Burlington, Ontario. Azargui, a grade 12 student at Bateman High and the #9 seed, dominated the event by beating India’s Rishabdev Raman # 6 seed, Hong Kong’s Justin To #2 seed, Hungary’s Norbert Nemcsek and David Vieyra # 8 seed in straight sets. Azargui then teamed with Nelson High School foreign student Nemcsek to win the doubles crown.
The week long event which attracted over 100 competitors from across the world and Canada was a huge success for the home ACE Tennis Academy as six of the eight quarter finalists in the boys draw were either present ACE Tennis players [Azargui, Nemcsek, Hoang and Reznek] or players that trained at ACE and have gone on to the National Team in Montreal [Vieyra and Trkulja]. This was the second time this year that an ACE player has won both the singles and doubles crown in an ITF event. Victor Hoang accomplished the feat this summer in Vancouver.
Viktoryia Kisdialeva of Ukraine defeated Michela Casanova of Switzerland to win the girls event. Canadians Carol Zhao and Ruxandra Andriescu captured the doubles crown.
Kyrylo Tabunshchyk, the tournament director for ACE Tennis announced that the next major event to be held at Cedar Springs, will be the 13th Canadian Indoor Open Championships from December 20-23.
